Fernanda do Nascimento Thomaz

Professor of African History and of the Postgraduate Program in History at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF). She works at the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship, where she is responsible for the General Coordination of Memory and Truth on Slavery and Transatlantic Trafficking of Enslaved Persons. She has a PhD in History from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF). She has a post-doctorate from the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ibadan, in Nigeria, and from the Max Planck Institute, in Germany. She is the coordinator of the UFJF Oral History and Image Laboratory (LABHOI/Afrikas), in the Memory, Africas and Slavery section. She has carried out research in the field of African Studies, with an emphasis on the history of Mozambique and Nigeria based on the following themes: colonialism, race relations, social history of law, gender, women's movements and memory.
