Marisol Argueta is the Head of Latin America and a Member of the Executive Committee at the World Economic Forum. A lawyer and Career Ambassador (currently on leave), she previously served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador. She has held positions as General Director of Foreign Policy and Diplomatic Officer at the Salvadoran Embassy in Washington, D.C., and at the country's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. Argueta holds a law degree and a master’s degree in diplomacy from the University of Oxford, with specialized studies at the International Peace Academy, Harvard University, and the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.
She has received national decorations and awards from countries including Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Italy, and the United States. A Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, she is also a member of the Central American Leadership Initiative of the Aspen Institute and has been recognized as one of the most distinguished women leaders in the region.
Her published works focus on foreign affairs, international relations, regional integration, and Latin America's competitiveness. She actively promotes public-private collaboration, sustainable development, and women's advancement. Argueta serves on various boards and advisory councils, including the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University, the Woodrow Wilson Center's Latin American Program, UNDP’s Latin American Program, and the Partnership for Central America. She is also a member of the Inter-American Dialogue, the Oversight Board of Matías Delgado University in El Salvador, and the Global Council of CIPPEC in Argentina.
