Aina Calvo Sastre

Aina Calvo, born in Palma in 1969, holds a degree in Philosophy and Arts and a Ph.D. in Educational Sciences. Since 2000, she has been an Associate Professor at the University of the Balearic Islands. She has held various political positions, including: Member of Parliament for the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Parliament of the Balearic Islands (2003-2004); Deputy Director-General of Cooperation and External Cultural Promotion in the Directorate-General for Cultural and Scientific Relations (MAEC-AECID) (2004-2006); Mayor of Palma (2007-2011); Co-President of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (2011); Spokesperson for the Socialist Municipal Group in the Palma City Council (2011-2015); and Director of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) (2018-2020). In 2020, she was appointed Government Delegate in the Balearic Islands, a position she held until December 2023. She was awarded the National Order of Merit of France in October 2021. Since December 2023, she has served as Secretary of State for Equality and for the Eradication of Violence against Women.
